SHANGANI
This area is known as Shangani Point, facing Africa Hotel formerly English Club. The Asians used to call it German Furdo, ( Forodhani, Forodha in Kiswahili refers to Customs ), as it was the main port in 1800 with German influence before the britts took over, perhaps you remember all the steps down to the beach.
Background is of course former SJCS, area is taken over by the Dubai tycoon who owns Park Hyatt ( formerly Mambo Msiige, in Kelele square,Mr. Stevens Home/office). A new wall is being built and a marina will be in this area.

This photo curtsey of my friend Girish Zalera , the little boy in the middle, with Kodak camera in his lap. They had a house in Fumba.
Girish lives in the house next to old Book Club, in late 1800 it was German Post Office below. He only remembers the Lords
Standing far right is my Vuga Neighbor Ida (Daughter of Chief Engineer of Sultan Ships Mr De Souza Grandfather of Mervyn Lobo )
Next to her Mrs Rene De Lord Mother of Joseph de Lord UK His sister Loreta seated in from of her Mom with Priest next to Loretta
The rest seem to be the Other de Lord family (of Fr Richard ) ..
Also front nd center seated in George Ives Pereira youngest son of Mrs Teacher Diogo Pereira.. most Prominent among early Goan Pioneers - Her daughter his sister Yvonne married Wolfango Durado

Dear Mervyn, this Emerson Spice Hotel located in Kiponda area where Tharia Topan Street starts, was owned by an Ismaili (Agakhani) who lived there as well as a Goan familiy, Benny mentions Dr. Silva. In the left hand corner was a Buddhist Ceylonese silver jewellery shop who lived in the ghalee behind Indian Bakery, his son Sompat went on to become a Professor in DAR.
After 64 it was nationalised like many other buildings nd Sherali Champsi rented it to convert into Spice Inn. An American, Emerson thru manipulations took over nd made it popular amongst tourists. My late good friend John Da Silva used to give pictorial info on our Old Town to guests at dinner in the roof top restaurant.
If you walk backwards you pass Don Millans shop nd tailor Montero, Johns father. Facing the hotel is a mosque and famous tailor Gopal Samji who employed some goans too.
Some history.
Mohamed
Dear Mervyn and Mohamed,
I remember that building but not 100% sure. Think it is Dr. Kiponda Silva’s surgery and home and opposite were those beautiful Persian families. I have been there with Dr Hurley’s son where I bought a couple of White Doves. Those beautiful girls we did not see. What sweet memories. Will save pic in our collection. Regards Benny
Dear Benny, if you mean Dr. SILVA, Edwin's father , yes they were located in Kiponda center but not here, equally beautiful building where you cud drive thru. Oh yes those Persian cute girls. Facing Silva was optician H.M.Rashid,
